Free, open awareness, is like a vast, open plain, stretching on all sides to a clear horizon, under a cloudless, sparkling sky. The separate self, with all its busy stories and gestures, is like an amusement park built over the plain. It has plenty of entertaining features, but it’s a lot of work keeping them all going…
But I like the amusement park.
Sure you do. It’s amusing. But not to worry. Nobody’s going to take it away from you. All that changes is that you’re no longer a prisoner of it, no longer invested in the belief that you are it, no longer stuck with its endless maintenance. Being a person is hard work. Being being is no work.
You relax as the open plain (rest as awareness), and it becomes clearer and clearer that the park runs itself.
